Matthias Gate and castle squares at the Royal Palace, Prague

The entrance gates to the Royal Palace are guarded by real soldiers, giant stone warriors and mythical animals. Many people want to visit this castle area and it was crowded. The Matthias Gate was built against the palace wall and is 400 years old. It was named after the Emperor Matthias, the King of Bohemia. The second palace square has a fountain statue in the middle and a white chapel of the Holy Cross. There were almost no visitors in the palace garden which was relaxing.

  7. I always wonder why Royal Palaces are big with so many rooms, sure takes lot of taxpayers money to maintain it for the royal family and perhaps their huge population of relatives!

  13. With so many people at the front either here or other famous sites, it is always challenging to get a picture by yourself without a crowd in the background.
